An Oral History of Bill & Ted with Keanu Reeves, Alex Winter, Chris Matheson, and Ed Solomon - Rotten Tomatoes

rotten.indah.link

Some 31 years after the original comedy that made them household names was released, time-traveling slackers Bill and Ted are back – along with the actors who made them icons, Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter. In Bill & Ted Face the Music, the boys – now middle-aged men with kids – are tasked with creating a song that will save the universe, and they have less than 80 minutes to do it. Ahead of the movie’s release, Rotten Tomatoes sat for a Bill & Ted deep dive with Reeves and Winter, as well as writers and co-creators Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, who created the characters in sketch workshops and have written all three films in the Bill & Ted trilogy. Here, the quartet take us back to the very beginning, remembering first auditions, revealing how sequel Bogus Journey almost turned out very differently, and giving us their takes on why the characters continue to appeal and what it means to “be excellent to each other.”

Bill & Ted Face the Music is in select theaters and available on VOD now.

#1

Adjusted Score: 86.549%

Critics Consensus: As wholesomely goofy as its heroes, Bill and Ted Face the Music is a rare long-belated sequel that largely recaptures the franchise's original charm.

Synopsis: The stakes are higher than ever for the time-traveling exploits of William "Bill" S. Preston Esq. and Theodore "Ted" Logan.... [More]

New on Amazon Prime Video in September 2020 - Rotten Tomatoes

rotten.indah.link

Amazon’s irreverent superhero series The Boys returns with a new season of anti-supes adventures, but this year the Amazon Prime Video series is getting a weekly release (along with a companion series). It’s joined by the comic book-themed Utopia as the streaming service’s TV debuts of September.

The service is also the new home of Daniel Craig’s Bond debut Casino Royale, both Sex and the City movies, plus a slew of  ’70s hits including Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Kramer Vs. Kramer, The Graduate, and In The Mechanic.

Keep reading to find out what else is new on Amazon Prime Video in September, including new on-demand titles like Antebellum and Guest House, with some highlights noted at the top.

Description: On the run from the law and hunted by the Supes, the Boys desperately try to regroup and fight back against Vought. Meanwhile, Starlight must navigate her place in The Seven as Homelander sets his sights on taking complete control. His power is threatened with the addition of Stormfront, who has an agenda of her own. On top of that, the Supervillain threat takes center stage and makes waves as Vought seeks to capitalize on the nation’s paranoia.

Premiere Date: Sept. 4

Description: Utopia is a conspiracy thriller that follows a group of young fans who come together when they discover that the conspiracy in an elusive comic, Utopia, is real. The comic foretells the demise of humanity and the world as we know it, thrusting this group of underdogs to embark on a high-stakes twisted adventure to use what they uncover to save themselves, each other and ultimately humanity.

Premiere Date: Sept. 25

Description: James Bond’s first 007 mission takes him to Madagascar, where he is to spy on a terrorist Mollaka. Not everything goes as planned and Bond decides to investigate, independently of the MI6 agency, in order to track down the rest of the terrorist cell. Following a lead to the Bahamas, he encounters Dimitrios and his girlfriend, Solange. He learns that Dimitrios is involved with Le Chiffre, banker to the world’s terrorist organizations. Secret Service intelligence reveals that Le Chiffre is planning to raise money in a high-stakes poker game in Montenegro at Le Casino Royale. MI6 assigns 007 to play against him, knowing that if Le Chiffre loses, it will destroy his organization. ‘M’ places Bond under the watchful eye of the beguiling Vesper Lynd. At first skeptical of what value Vesper can provide, Bond’s interest in her deepens as they brave danger together–and even torture at the hands of Le Chiffre. In Montenegro, Bond allies himself with Matthis, MI6’s local field agent, and Felix Leiter, who is representing the interests of the CIA. The marathon game proceeds with dirty tricks and violence, raising the stakes beyond blood money and reaching a terrifying climax.

Critics Consensus: Casino Royale disposes of the silliness and gadgetry that plagued recent James Bond outings, and Daniel Craig delivers what fans and critics have been waiting for: a caustic, haunted, intense reinvention of 007.

Premiere Date: Sept. 1

Judy (2019) 82%

Description: Winter 1968 and showbiz legend Judy Garland arrives in Swinging London to perform a five-week sold-out run at The Talk of the Town. It is 30 years since she shot to global stardom in The Wizard of Oz, but if her voice has weakened, its dramatic intensity has only grown. As she prepares for the show, battles with management, charms musicians and reminisces with friends and adoring fans, her wit and warmth shine through. Even her dreams of love seem undimmed as she embarks on a whirlwind romance with Mickey Deans, her soon-to-be fifth husband. Featuring some of her best-known songs, the film celebrates the voice, the capacity for love, and the sheer pizzazz of “the world’s greatest entertainer.”

Critics Consensus: Led by a deeply committed performance from Renée Zellweger, Judy captures the waning days of a beloved performer with clear-eyed compassion.

Premiere Date: Sept. 25

New York’s AG Lays a Rotten Egg - The Wall Street Journal

rotten.indah.link

A bright spot during the pandemic has been the resilience of the food supply, which kept staples on shelves. But now state attorneys general in New York, Texas and West Virginia are taking aim at farmers—and the market forces—that helped keep eggs on Americans’ plates.

What did the farmers do to run allegedly afoul of the law? They responded to an unprecedented increase in demand for retail groceries, including eggs, by selling eggs at prevailing market prices, which rose in New York from about $1 for a dozen large eggs from...

Lindsay Lohan's Top 10 Movies, Ranked Best To Worst (According To Rotten Tomatoes) - Screen Rant

rotten.indah.link

Actress, singer, and model Lindsay Lohan has been working since she was a young child, and viewers fell in love with her bright red air and freckle-face from the very beginning. In the decades since her career began, she's captured the hearts of even more fans as she's moved into more serious and mature roles that fit her blossoming personality.

RELATED: Which Lindsay Lohan Movie Are You Based On Your MBTI

From Life Size (2000) to Among the Shadows (2019), Lindsay has had many starring roles in films for all ages. Some did better than others, according to critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but the majority of them were loved by fans who enjoy seeing Lindsay on screen. Here are the top ten rated films from best to worst according to their scores on RT:

advertising

10 Teenage Paparazzo (2010) - 100%

The top film on Lindsay's filmography is a documentary that she appears in from 2010. The film stars actor Adrian Grenier of Entourage fame, and it features the relationship between him and a 13-year-old paparazzi photographer named Austin Visschedyk. Their strange bond begins after Adrian spots Austin in a crowd of photographers one night.

Adrian follows Austin around, learning about what it's like to be a paparazzo while juggling the responsibilities and stress of being a young teen. Lohan appears in the film as herself, in addition to other celebrities such as Paris Hilton and Alec Baldwin.

9 Freaky Friday (2003) - 88%

Freaky Friday was originally a book published in 1972, and two films were adapted from it in 1976 and 1995 before Lindsay Lohan starred in the 2003 remake. The movie is about a misunderstood teenager and her mother who butt heads until they magically swap bodies.

RELATED: Jamie Lee Curtis' 10 Best Roles, Ranked (TV & Film)

Now in the other's body, they must learn how to be each other and in turn, they learn to understand their differences and similarities. This role was unique for Lindsay because she actually played two parts, the daughter as well as the mother in the daughter's body.

advertising

8 The Parent Trap (1998) - 86%

Lindsay Lohan's first appearance on the big screen was similar to Freaky Friday in a couple of ways. The Parent Trap was a remake of a 1961 family favorite, in which one girl played two different characters, a pair of twins who meet by chance and decide to get their divorced parents back together.

Lindsay not only had to play two different parts, but one girl even has an English accent, which Lindsay had to master for the role. While Lindsay's performance wasn't scored as highly as the original (which earned a 90%), her version of The Parent Trap still remains her third highest rated film on RT.

advertising

7 Mean Girls (2004) - 84%

The satirical masterpiece that is Mean Girls is the super "grool" movie that has everyone wearing pink on Wednesdays, and Lindsay was at the center of it all. Lohan plays a girl named Cady who is attending public high school for the first time after being home schooled all her life. She happens to fall into a clique of snobby teens, and while trying to sabotage their leader, Regina, Cady accidentally finds herself becoming more and more of a mean girl herself.

This is one of Lindsay's most iconic roles, alongside other stars such as Rachel McAdams and Tina Fey.

advertising

6 Machete (2010) - 72%

Viewers may remember Spy Kids (2001) and its subsequent sequels, but they may not realize that there was also a spin-off starring the Cortez kids' uncle, Machete. The 2010 film is much darker than the Spy Kids franchise, involving several killings in the very beginning, earning the film a solid R-rating.

RELATED: Spy Kids: 10 Things You Never Knew About The Franchise

Lindsay plays a woman named April, the daughter of a businessman and shady campaign manager that betrays Machete. Machete kidnaps April after she and her mother June appear in an adult film with him.

5 Love, Marilyn (2011) - 65%

Marilyn Monroe is an icon and probably one of the most famous actresses of all time. Two boxes of her writings were found in the home of her acting coach, Lee Strasberg, many decades after her passing. These works became the subject of the documentary Love, Marilyn, in which several actresses gave dramatic readings of her letters, poems, and diaries.

Among the actresses was Lindsay Lohan, who spoke of the famous scene in The Seven Year Itch (1955) where Marilyn stood above a subway grate with air blowing her dress up around her.

advertising

4 Bobby (2006) - 47%

The semi-historical film Bobby tells a fictional version of the hours leading up to the shooting of Senator Robert F. Kennedy in 1968. The film features an ensamble cast, of which Lohan was a part, and includes big names such as Harry Belafonte, Nick Cannon, and Demi Moore.

Lindsay plays Diane Howser, a woman planning to marry her best friend, a military man, so that he an be deployed to Germany instead of the dangerous battlefields in Vietnam. Elijah Wood plays her husband to be, William.

3 Herbie: Fully Loaded (2005) - 41%

Herbie is a lifelike Volkswagen Beetle that was first made famous in the 1968 film The Love Bug. Since then, Herbie has appeared in several more films, the last of which being Herbie: Fully Loaded.

The films starts with Herbie being towed to a junkyard after a losing streak in his last several races. It's there that he meets Maggie (Lohan) a young racer who gets taken to the junkyard by her dad to get a car for her birthday. The two become unlikely friends, but they both need each other more than they realize!

advertising

2 Liz & Dick (2012) - 33%

The critically panned Liz & Dick tells of the relationship between actors Elizabeth Taylor (played by Lindsay) and Richard Burton (played by Grant Bowler).

From the time they meet in 1963 while working on the same film, Cleopatra, things don't get off on the right foot, with Elizabeth finding Richard to be quite rude when he only means to compliment her. However, they quickly indulge in an affair, beginning a complicated relationship that leads to divorces in their privates lives before they marry each other.

1 The Canyons (2013) - 22%

A far cry from her earlier child-friendly roles, Lohan took part in the erotic drama thriller film The Canyons, where she portrayed Tara, a bisexual woman who frequently engages in group intimate relations in her open arrangement with her boyfriend Christian, who produces low budget films. Things get a bit complicated when it is revealed that she used to date Christian's personal assistant's boyfriend, Ryan.

While Lindsay was originally approached with the proposal of playing a woman named Cynthia, a smaller role in the film, she replied that she instead wanted to play the lead role of Tara, which she ultimately landed.

Marvel Co-Stars and Hollywood Pay Tribute to Chadwick Boseman - Rotten Tomatoes

Following the news of Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman’s death on Friday evening, tributes have been flowing in from every corner of Hollywood celebrating the actor’s incredible work and incomparable spirit, and grieving the loss of both. For fans and those in the industry, Boseman was a pioneer – the actor who played the MCU’s first Black lead superhero as well as some of the most important figures of the 20th Century – and for his co-stars and co-workers, he was all that, as well as a friend and source of light. As Kevin Feige, who changed his Twitter avatar to the Black Panther mask, said in a statement to CNN: “He was our T’Challa, our Black Panther, and our dear friend.”

Below, we’ve gathered up a number of tributes to Boseman from some of his MCU peers and others in the industry, and we’d encourage you to share your thoughts on this incredible loss in the comments below.

“It was meant to be for Chadwick and me to be connected, for us to be family. But what many don’t know is our story began long before his historic turn as Black Panther. During the premiere party for Black Panther, Chadwick reminded me of something. He whispered that when I received my honorary degree from Howard University, his alma mater, he was the student assigned to escort me that day. And here we were, years later as friends and colleagues, enjoying the most glorious night ever! We’d spent weeks prepping, working, sitting next to each other every morning in makeup chairs, preparing for the day together as mother and son. I am honored that we enjoyed that full circle experience. This young man’s dedication was awe-inspiring, his smile contagious, his talent unreal. So I pay tribute to a beautiful spirit, a consummate artist, a soulful brother…”thou aren’t not dead but flown afar…”. All you possessed, Chadwick, you freely gave. Rest now, sweet prince.” #WakandaForever

New on Hulu in September 2020 - Rotten Tomatoes

rotten.indah.link

It’s back to school for Hulu this September as middle school comedy Pen15 returns for a second season. It’s joined by new Hulu Original series Woke, plus a slew of major movies — including 2020’s first major pandemic digital release, Trolls World Tour, and a few recent hits like Gemini Man and Judy.

The streaming service also inherits all five films in the Twilight Saga from its previous streaming home:
Twilight (2008)
The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009)
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010)
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 (2011)
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 (2012)

Certified Fresh films The Bank Job, The Birdcage, Evil Dead 2, Hoosiers, The Impossible, Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, Pieces of April, Some Kind of Wonderful, The Terminator, and Wanted are all streaming on Hulu this month. Read on to find out what else is headed to the streamer and what’s leaving in September.

Description: Inspired by the life and work of artist Keith Knight, comedy series Woke takes an absurdly irreverent look at identity and culture as it follows Keef (played by Lamorne Morris), an African-American cartoonist finally on the verge of mainstream success when an unexpected incident changes everything. With a fresh outlook on the world around him, Keef must now navigate the new voices and ideas that confront and challenge him, all without setting aflame everything he’s already built.

Premiere Date: Sept. 9

Description: This R-rated “traumedy” is set in middle school as it really happened in the year 2000. Anna Konkle and Maya Erskine play versions of themselves as 13-year-old outcasts, surrounded by actual 13-year-olds. In this world, seventh grade never ends and the pains of growing up are inevitable.

Premiere Date: Sept. 18

Description: In an adventure that will take them well beyond what they’ve known before, Poppy (Anna Kendrick) and Branch (Justin Timberlake) discover that they are but one of six different Troll tribes scattered over six different lands and devoted to six different kinds of music: Funk, Country, Techno, Classical, Pop and Rock. Their world is about to get a lot bigger and a whole lot louder. A member of hard-rock royalty, Queen Barb (Rachel Bloom), aided by her father King Thrash (Ozzy Osbourne), wants to destroy all other kinds of music to let rock reign supreme. With the fate of the world at stake, Poppy and Branch, along with their friends – Biggie (James Corden), Chenille (Caroline Hjelt), Satin (Aino Jawo), Cooper (Ron Funches) and Guy Diamond (Kunal Nayyar) – set out to visit all the other lands to unify the Trolls in harmony against Barb, who’s looking to upstage them all.

Critics Consensus: A fun follow-up for fans of the original, Trolls World Tour offers a second helping of colorful animation, infectious energy, and sing-along songs.

Premiere Date: Sept. 18

Description: In 1950 Kansas City, two criminal syndicates jockey to control an alternate economy of exploitation, graft and drugs while fighting for a piece of the American dream. As tensions rise, the crime heads trade their youngest sons in an attempt to strike an uneasy peace.

Premiere Date: Sept. 28
