Bill Pullman has been working consistently on stage and in film and television since the 1980s. He first appeared in the film Ruthless People with Better Midler and Danny DeVito. Pullman is most well known for his roles on the big screen. He played the President of the United States in the blockbuster hit Independence Day and younger movie-goers will remember him as playing Cristina Ricci's dad in the beloved film, Casper.

Bill Pullman is one of those actors who seems to pop up in every movie and always delivers a memorable performance. Here are some of Pullman's best as ranked by Rotten Tomatoes.

10 The Grudge (39%)

The Grudge

This horror film is the American version of a Japanese horror film by the same director, Takashi Shimizu. This film tells the story of an old curse that says if a person dies in a state of extreme rage or sadness, the curse stay in the place where that happened and takes more lives.

In this film, Bill Pullman plays Peter, a professor, and object of Kayako's affections. When Kayako's husband finds out, he murders her and that is how the curse begins, which does eventually take Peter's life as well.

9 Casper (47%)

Casper

Casper is a 90's children's movie based on the cartoons by the same name about a friendly ghost and all of his adventures. In this movie, Bill Pullman plays Dr. James Harvey, who moves into a big, haunted mansion with his daughter, Kat, after Kat's mom and Dr. Harvey's wife dies.

Luckily for these two, the house is haunted by Casper the friendly ghost and his mischievous and hilarious uncles.

8 Lost Highway (60%)

This Neo-noir cult classic, directed by David Lynch, initially didn't do very well at the box office or in critics' reviews. This film is about Fred Madison, played by Pullman, a musician who starts receiving VHS tapes in the mail.

On these tapes is footage of Fred and his wife in their home. Later, Fred is accused of murder and then goes missing. It's a twisted tale that only Lynch could execute and is one of Pullman's best roles to date.

7 Independence Day (66%)

Independence Day, directed by Roland Emmerich, was one of the '90s most successful disaster movies at the box office. The story imagines what would happen if aliens came to earth, with less-than-peaceful intentions and waged war on our planet. In this film, Bill Pullman plays President of the United States, Thomas J. Whitmore.

The film also stars Will Smith as Captain Steven Hiller, the man who will inevitably save the day.

6 Sleepless In Seattle (74%)

This classic romantic comedy stars Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan but also has a stellar supporting cast, including Bill Pullman as Walter Jackson, fiancee to Meg Ryan's character, Annie Reed.

The story begins when Sam Baldwin's, played by Tom Hanks, son, Jonah, calls a radio station and convinces his dad to go on air and talk about the grief he is experiencing having lost his wife. Annie hears Sam on the radio and realizes something is missing from her own relationship. Destiny eventually steps in to unite Annie and Sam and they live happily ever after.

5 Igby Goes Down (76%)

This comedy-drama film boasts an impressive cast with Kieran Culken, Susan Sarandon, Amanda Peet, Claire Danes, Jeff Goldblum, and Bill Pullman in starring roles.

The film is about a boy, Igby, played by Culkin, growing as a teenager and attempting to break away from his family ties and all the drama that comes with it. In the film, Bill Pullman plays Jason, Igby's father who has been committed to an institution for his schizophrenia.

4 A League Of Their Own (78%)

A League of their Own premiered in 1992 to both critic and audience acclaim. The sports drama is based on the true story of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, which was a league started in 1942 during World War II when most of America's men were being drafted to fight.

In the film, Bill Pullman plays Bob Hinson, Dottie's husband who is shipped off to fight while Dottie plays catcher for the Rockford Peaches.

3 While You Were Sleeping (80%)

While You Were Sleeping is a romantic comedy starring Sandra Bullock, Bill Pullman, and Peter Gallagher. In the film, Bullock plays Lucy, a token taker at the subway who has a pretty big crush on Peter Callaghan, a man she sees taking the subway every day and admires from a distance.

On Christmas, Peter is mugged while waiting for the subway and is thrown on the tracks. Lucy saves him, which sets in motion a lot of confusion for Peter's family, including his brother, Jack, played by Pullman.

2 Walking Out (90%)

Walking Out is an independent film that tells the story of a father and son trying to bond while at the same time, trying to survive a treacherous situation in the mountains during a hunting expedition. The film revived a lot of critical acclaim when it premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2017.

The film is based on the short story with the same name by David Quamman and also stars Matt Bomer and Josh Wiggins.

1 Dark Waters (90%)

This legal thriller is based on the true story of Robert Billott a corporate defense lawyer who fought against the chemical manufacturing company, DuPont when the company was contaminating a local town. The film's script was based on the "New York Times Magazine" article about Billott.

In addition to Pullman, the film stars Mark Ruffalo as the central character, Anne Hathaway and Tim Robbins.
