After months of anticipation, the 24-hour pop culture extravaganza that is DC FanDome is finally here! If you don’t know what DC FanDome is, you can head on over here for a quick primer, but the general idea is that DC Entertainment is holding a completely free, completely online convention-style 24-hour event that will feature tons of panels with top-level talent — think Gal Gadot, Dwayne Johnson, James Gunn, Robert Pattinson, and so many more — to highlight their biggest titles in film, television, comics, and games.
With that in mind, we thought it would be fun to do a little celebratory showdown, this time focusing on the film and television heroes either directly based on or inspired by DC Comics characters. Of course, there have been dozens of movies and TV shows over the lifetime of DC Comics, so it was a little tricky to narrow down the roster of characters, even at 64 open slots on the bracket. In order to make the task more manageable, we chose to nix all of the animated characters (we know; it hurt us to do that, too), included only those who would be considered heroes in their respective stories, and tried to make sure most of the popular or noteworthy contemporary films and series were represented in some way. There are a handful historical portrayals, as well as some that are famous for perhaps the wrong reasons, thrown in for fun and discussion, and in many cases, there are match-ups between different portrayals of the same hero. In the end, we had to kill quite a few of our darlings to put this thing together, so believe us when we say we know the list of characters here is not exhaustive; we probably could have made this one twice as big if we really wanted to.
So with all of the pleasantries out of the way, have at it! Voting in Round 1 of the DC Heroes Showdown will end Tuesday, August 25 at 10pm PT, leading directly into Round 2. So cast your votes, and be sure to check back on RT for all the latest updates on DC FanDome!
