Star Wars: Daisy Ridley's 5 Best (& 5 Worst) Roles, According To Rotten Tomatoes - Screen Rant

Daisy Ridley has only become a household name recently. In less than a year, she went from being a veritable unknown with a few minor television roles to being picked by J.J. Abrams for the role of Rey in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. While she hasn't expressed an interest in returning to the Star Wars franchise anytime soon, she will appear in the upcoming big-budget adaptation of Chaos Walking, so her Hollywood career is far from over.

Here, this list has assembled some of her best and worst film and television appearances, specially picked out by their Rotten Tomatoes scores.

10 BEST: Toast of London (2013-) - 84%

The British sitcom Toast of London, which began in 2013 and is set to air a fourth series in the near future, follows the life of Steven Toast, a self-absorbed actor with a decaying career. In what was one of her first roles in a major production, Ridley appears in the series 1 episode "Vanity Project" as a stagehand.

Toast of London has received positive reviews from critics for its characters and humor, and it currently has an 84% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

9 WORST: Mr. Selfridge (2013-2016) - 69%

A period drama focusing on the life of Harry Gordon Selfridge, the founder of the UK-based department store chain Selfridge and Co., Mr. Selfridge ran for four series on ITV. Ridley appeared in the eighth episode of series 2 as a minor character named Roxy Scarlet.

Mr. Selfridge received mixed critical reception for its plot, characters, and writing, and currently has a 69% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

8 BEST: Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017) - 90%

The second film in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, 2017's The Last Jedi was met with heavy praise from critics, earning a monumental 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the general public was less pleased, and it shows -- the film's audience score sits at a measly, overturned popcorn-bucket 43%.

Ridley's performance, at the very least, was well-executed enough to make the acting a less major issue than the film's other perceivable flaws.

7 WORST: Peter Rabbit (2018) - 63%

Alongside such big-name stars as James Corden, Margot Robbie, and Elizabeth Debicki, Daisy Ridley joined onto the 2018 Sony Pictures film Peter Rabbit in a voice role. The film, which admittedly takes some liberties with Beatrix Potter's original work (including inserting Potter herself into the story), didn't please critics, even less so after a controversy arose regarding the film's treatment of those with allergies.

Peter Rabbit currently has a 63% Rotten Tomatoes approval rating.

6 BEST: Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) - 93%

Reigniting the Skywalker saga years after the controversial prequel-saga finale that was Revenge of the Sith seemed impossible for years, but to their credit, Disney got it done with The Force Awakens. Ridley's protagonist Rey, while accused of rehashing earlier leads to an extent, was heavily praised by critics at the time of the film's release.

Meanwhile, a solid story and stunning visuals kept the ship afloat, and the film became both a critical and commercial titan that currently holds a stellar 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

5 WORST: Murder on the Orient Express (2017) - 61%

Daisy Ridley in Murder on the Orient Express

The second big-screen adaptation of Agatha Christie's classic whodunnit, 2017's Murder on the Orient Express boasted a cast full of "name" actors. Alongside Ridley (in the role of Mary Debenham), Judi Dench, Johnny Depp, Willem Dafoe, and Michelle Pfeiffer also starred. However, the film only received mixed reviews from critics, with many praising the visuals and performances while at the same time decrying the muddled script and dull story.

Because of these reasons as well as others, it currently has a 61% Rotten Tomatoes score.

4 BEST: The Eagle Huntress (2016) - 94%

Following her step into the spotlight with the release of 2015's The Force Awakens, Ridley narrated and executive produced the Kazakh documentary The Eagle Huntress, which tells the story of a young girl who aspires to become a recognized eagle hunter.

While the film's handling of its subject matter was met with some criticism, reviewers praised its visuals, message, and story, and it currently holds a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

3 WORST: Ophelia (2019) - 60%

Daisy Ridley in Ophelia 2019

In 2019, Daisy Ridley starred in Ophelia, a drama (based on the novel of the same name) that reconstructs the story of Shakespeare's Hamlet by looking at it from Ophelia's point of view.

While Ridley's performance was met with acclaim and the cinematography was likewise praised, the film's confused story befuddled some critics. Ophelia currently holds a decidedly polarized Rotten Tomatoes rating of 60%.

2 BEST: Only Yesterday (2016) - 100%

An English-language dub of the 1991 Studio Ghibli film Only Yesterday, a coming-of-age drama directed by Isao Takahata (Grave of the Fireflies, The Tale of the Princess Kaguya), was released in 2016 by GKIDS to commemorate the film's 25th anniversary.

The dub featured Daisy Ridley in the lead role of Taeko, opposite Slumdog Millionaire star Dev Patel as Toshio. It was praised by critics for its animation and emotional weight, and currently holds a rare 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

1 WORST: Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019) - 51%

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was expected to cap off a trilogy that had been taken in many different directions over the course of just two movies, and it suffered for it. Reviewers didn't like the film's story -- finding it nonexistent at many points -- and the sumptuous visuals and top-tier acting talent couldn't fix the many holes they tore into it.

The Rise of Skywalker currently holds a 51% Rotten Tomatoes critical approval rating. Audiences were somewhat more receptive, giving the film an 86% overall score.
