Amazon has released the first three episodes of The Boys Season 2, bringing the bloody feud between Billy Butcher and Homelander back to the forefront while upping the ante between the sociopathic superheroes and the misfits trying to keep them in line.

As professional reviews continue to come in, review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes has released its official score for the second season at a universally praised 98%, a marked rise from the season's initial score of 89%. The audience score for Season 2 currently stands at a similarly strong 89 percent.

Last year's Season 1 received a solid 84% critic score and an audience score of 93%. For Season 2, critics praised the deepening character arcs and heightened stakes for the season's action sequences, without the series compromising its biting social commentary. CBR's own advance review of Season 2 praised it for "finding bold new directions to challenge its characters in big ways."

Amazon surprised audiences by releasing the first three episodes of Season 2 earlier than anticipated, giving Prime subscribers early access to the Dynamite Entertainment adaptation. A third season was announced by Amazon this past July as part of the series' Comic-Con@Home presentation, with principal photography expected to begin January 2021.
