Just in time for Halloween, Hulu has launched Marvel's Helstrom, following two siblings as they investigate supernatural disturbances, often pitting them against the ultimate evil personified.
Upon its debut this past weekend, professional critics lambasted the series as uninspired and wholly unnecessary in the larger MCU canon as a weak final outing for Marvel Television, including CBR's own advance review of the series. Despite its tepid response from critics, however, the horror series has earned its fair share of vocal fans on review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes.
While the professional critics' score on the site is currently at a paltry 39%, the audience score more than doubles it with an impressive 92% score. Audience reviews laud the performance by stars Tom Austen and Sydney Lemmon and its horror-tinged thrills, even without the wider Marvel association.
Helstrom is the final live-action production by Marvel Television after it was shuttered and absorbed by Marvel Studios last year. Marking the end of an era that began with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in 2013, Helstrom was the first series planned for a wave of horror series set in the MCU before the television studio's shutdown.
Starring Tom Austen, Sydney Lemmon, Elizabeth Marvel, June Carryl, Robert Wisdom, Ariana Guerra and Alain Uy, the 10-episode first season of Helstrom is available to stream now on Hulu.
