Clooney has directed a total of nine projects since 2002, beginning with the debut feature film Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. His latest directorial outing includes The Midnight Sky, a Netflix original set to premiere on December 23, 2020.

Starring a cast of Coen brothers' regulars, Suburbicon follows Gardner Lodge (Damon), a staid suburbanite in 1959 who suddenly uncovers the seedy side of his idyllic existence when a new family moves in next door. The further Gardner tries to avoid the murder and mayhem in his neighborhood, the more he becomes implicated.

Based on the nonfiction book by Robert M. Edsel and Bret Witter, Clooney co-wrote, directed, and starred in The Monuments Men, a historical war comedy featuring a stellar ensemble.

The title refers to a platoon of soldiers in WWII who is given the unique mission of crossing enemy lines in Germany to find and preserve invaluable works of art. The priceless artworks were stolen by thieving Nazis and the Monuments Men are tasked with returning them to their rightful owners.

The third feature film Clooney directed was Leatherheads, a period football picture that he starred in alongside Renee Zellweger and John Krasinski. The screwball rom-com set in 1925 stars Clooney as Dodge Connelly, an aging football star with a plan to return to glory.

Based on the book Good Morning, Midnight by Lily Brooks-Dalton, Clooney stars as Augustine Lighthouse, a scientist with the weight of the world on his shoulders.

Starring Krista Allen, Bryan Greenberg, and Jennifer Hall, the show follows three struggling actors doing all they can to break out in Hollywood. Frank Langella plays Goddard Fulton, a ruthless acting teacher who tries to impart words of wisdom to the young actors.

Fourteen years after directing television for the first time, Clooney returned to the small screen in 2019 via the well-received adaptation of Joseph Heller's Catch-22. Clooney directed two of the six episodes of the Hulu original series.

Clooney's most personal passion project Good Night, And Good Luck earned six Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Director, and Original Screenplay. The true-story of TV news anchor Edward R. Murrow taking down the hysteria of Senator Joseph McCarthy in the 1950s is the best project Clooney has directed thus far, according to Rotten Tomatoes.

David Strathairn stars as Murrow, the public conscientious objector to the rank McCarthyism of the era. Clooney stars as Murrow's chief producer Fred Friendly, who together remained steadfast in their opposition to McCarthy and their mission to expose his fraudulence.
