One of the most comprehensive film review aggregators around, Rotten Tomatoes has shared its list of the ten best-reviewed films of 2020. The announcement came as part of the annual Golden Tomato Awards and includes titles that have received both a limited and wide theatrical release as well as including streaming-only films too.

A statement on the website shares the criteria for inclusion in the awards: “In order to qualify for a Golden Tomato Award, a movie must have been released in the United States between January 1, 2020 and February 28 2021, and it must have at least 40 reviews.”

The criteria continues in regards to TV-only films: “All eligible seasons and TV movies must have premiered in the 2020 calendar year, and have a minimum of 20 reviews from different critics for the season or it’s episodes. All contenders need to have at least 5 reviews by Top Critics.”

Considering Rotten Tomatoes position as having one of the most highly engaged film audiences in the world, and that they have collated reviews from across the globe and the internet, to take their top ten list lightly is a grave error.

These will, undoubtedly, be the films we remember in 10, 20 or even 30 years time. More often than not, it is the collective view and not the eyes, ears and pen of one reviewer that will determine a film’s legacy. Chances are, the ten below will be watched over and over again for years to come.

The list is littered with Oscar nominees as well as newly-adored favourites (Hamilton) but we can guarantee that every one of them is worth watching right now.
