The first round of the ultimate giant monster battle royale has ended, and as expected, there were some blowouts, but there were also some fairly close races. In the two narrowest victories, the middle-Earth face-off between the Balrog and Smaug resulted in a 6-point win for the latter, while the giant shark from The Meg likewise took down Pacific Rim‘s category-5 kaiju Slattern by a margin of 53% to 47%. The most lopsided victory belonged to Godzilla himself, who took down the 1961 monster he inspired, Gorgo, with a whopping 98% of the vote. Meanwhile, the mutant crocodile Lizzie from 2018’s Rampage secured perhaps the most surprising win of the round, handily defeating the iconic giant turtle Gamera, who becomes the only Godzilla-adjacent monster not to survive the round.
As usual, things get more interesting in Round 2, with battles like the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man versus Smaug and Mechagodzilla versus King Ghidorah. Vote now before polls close on Sunday, March 21 at 10pm and take us one step closer to crowning the ultimate giant monster from the movies!
