Opera House Players to livestream musical comedy 'Something Rotten' - Journal Inquirer

ENFIELD — Opera House Players will present its first livestreamed, on-demand production, “Something Rotten,” Friday-Saturday.

Created by Grammy Award-winning songwriter Wayne Kirkpatrick, “Something Rotten” received several best musical Tony Award nominations.

About the play: Set in 1595, the story follows brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom, who are struggling to find success in the theater and out-Bard the Bard.

Nick consults with a soothsayer, who informs him that the future of theater involves acting, singing, and dancing, all at once. Consequentially, the Bottom Brothers strive to write the world’s very first musical, “Omelette: The Musical.”

“Something Rotten” features large song and dance numbers and a wacky cast of over-the-top characters, each given his or her own special moment in the show to shine.

The cost is $25 per streaming device, which will allow access on demand for 48 hours Friday through Sunday.

TheaterWorks Hartford

HARTFORD —TheaterWorks Hartford, in partnership with Goodspeed Musicals, will present “Christiane Noll: Coming Alive Again,”starring Tony Award nominee Noll, streaming on demand through Sunday, May 30.

This thoughtful, moving, and funny (virtual) concert experience explores themes of motherhood and complex women, through the lens of a Broadway artist navigating a crazy COVID-paralyzed world.

Fuse Theatre

MADISON — Fuse Theatre of Connecticut, a new theatercompany, will take Shakespeare into the 21st century digital forest with “A Midsummer Night’s Dream – The Rewired Musical” making its debut Friday.

Marrying the classic romantic comedy to a virtual setting with all-new songs, this reboot finds the Bard’s young lovers, royalty, and mischief-making fairies caught in the wilds of the worldwide web.

This virtual production runs through Friday, June 4. Tickets are $15 for individuals; $25 for households of two or more; $10 for students, seniors, frontline workers, and gig workers; and a $50 package for educators that includes streaming rights for the production for classes. Jacob’s Well

VERNON — Jacob’s Well Coffeehouse will feature comedian Brad Stine from Brentville, Tennessee, on Friday, June 4. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., the event starts at 7:15 p.m. The event will be held in the 700-seat Union Church sanctuary at 3 Elm St. in the historic Rockville section.

Admission is free and dress is casual. A freewill offering will be taken to help with expenses.

Stine will perform comedy skits about Bible characters and topics, church life, and everyday living, In addtion, coffeehouse Director Drew Crandall will interview Stine with Q&A from the audience.

Goodspeed musicals

EAST HADDAM — Goodspeed by the River is back for a series of live musical performances this summer under a tent alongside the Goodspeed Opera House, rain or shine.

Goodspeed by the River begins Thursday, June 10, and runs through Labor Day.

The schedule includes:

• June 10-20. “Turn Back Time: Ben & Dee Rock the ’70s, ’80s. and Beyond.”

Singer-songwriter Ben Clark (“The Circus in Winter”) and Dee Roscioli from “Wicked” are ready to rock the tent with an acoustic set full of classic rock.

• June 22-July 18. “Ambassador of Love: a Celebration of Pearl Bailey.” Spend an evening with Broadway and Goodspeed favorite Rashidra Scott (“Anything Goes”) as she celebrates the one and only Pearl Bailey.

• June 23-July 4. “Bennett & Babs: The Songs of Tony Bennett and Barbra Streisand.”

Broadway favorites Jackie Burns (“Wicked”) and Joe Cassidy (“Waitress”) take the stage in tribute to the great performers.

• July 7-July 18. “Together Again: Max & Celeste Sing Their Broadway Favorites.”

Goodspeed by the River performances will be Tuesday through Sundays at 7 p.m. with Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $45; packages are available. Tickets may be purchased only through the box office at 860-873-8668.
