The lovable Paddington Bear is framed for a crime he didn't commit and sent to prison in family sequel "Paddington 2." The film's director Paul King and his co-screenwriter, actor Simon Farnaby, have been cooking up stories which could land the movie's stars behind bars too. (Feb. 9)

In 2017's "Paddington 2," the innocent Paddington bear memorably said, "If we're kind and polite, the world will be right."

Who knows if marmalade-loving Paddington has the same rosy life outlook after a late-entry, thrashing review to movie site Rotten Tomatoes – a lambasting that knocked the beloved animated children's film from the site's flawless, 100% positive reviewed list.

Director Paul King's film is the latest to lose its perfect Rotten Tomatoes score due to an added negative review, bringing it down to a 99% "fresh" rating.

There were 245 previous glowing reviews for "Paddington 2," which features Ben Whishaw as the voice of Paddington, that gave the film the vaunted perfect score.

5 thingsyou didn't know about the Paddington Bear

But on May 28 – three years, four months and 16 days following the January 12, 2018 U.S. release date – film critic Eddie Harrison at a site called Film Authority eyed a spoiler opportunity and took belated aim. Rotten Tomatoes marked Harrison's 246th review as the one negative, with a 2 out of 5 score.

Harrison tried to explain that he has always been a critic.

"I reviewed 'Paddington 2' negatively for BBC radio on release in 2017, and on multiple occasions after that, and I stand by every word of my criticism," the review states.

"This is not my Paddington Bear, but a sinister, malevolent imposter who should be shot into space, or nuked from space at the first opportunity," the review continues. "Over-confident, snide and sullen, this manky-looking bear bears little relation to the classic character, and viewers should be warned; this ain’t yo mamma’s Paddington bear, and it won’t be yours either. Maybe if you’ve never seen the tv show and don’t know any better, this’ll work, but long-term Paddington fans will find this too much to bear."

In another memorable line, Harrison wrote that Whishaw as Paddington "sounds like a member of some indie-pop band coming down from an agonizing ketamine high."

Paddington can at least take heart knowing the his film is in good company.

The change in the "Paddington 2" score takes place just over a month after Orson Welles' 1941 masterpiece "Citizen Kane" was knocked from its perfect Rotten Tomatoes score. This came after a negative 80-year-old review was discovered as part of the website's Archival Project.
